From ideation to first copies sold.
Kalliope Draft has the tools you need, so you can focus on your craft and leave the industry noise behind.
-
Codex
Keep track of the characters, locations, and other terms that matter.
Track your entries as you draft. Names light up in the drafting pane, so you can find references easily. Forget an eye color? An internal motivation? Maybe the last place a murder weapon was mentioned? Just right click to go back to the Codex for a refresher.
-
Relationships
Relationships are everything, dahling.
Never lose track of how people, places, and things are related to each other. With an automated relational web and the ability to view relationships and family trees, you’d be hard pressed to forget whose side of the family second-cousin Henry is on or who owns Chuffbert Hall.
-
Atlas
A map?!?! Yes. A map.
Upload a map of your world and pin your locations to it. Track scenes by location and never forget who was there when…whatever happened. You can also share the map with your readers so they don’t get lost either.
-
Outliner
View your scenes in order, no interruptions.
You can view the whole manuscript, or sort by part, chapter, status, POV character, or keyword. Quickly assess what’s missing or confirm that everything is as it should be.
-
Whiteboard
Need to rearrange your scenes a few times? No problem.
You can put away your physical whiteboard, because now you can drag scenes around your digital whiteboard as well. Arrange the scene cards until you find the right thread, then rearrange them in the binder to match. Create a new chapter or scene directly from the whiteboard to fill any gaps.
-
Structure
Your digital beat sheet.
Choose from a few different view options for tracking your beats and the scenes that advance them. You can apply a preset template or build your own. This is also where you track your big reveal…and any hints you’ve seeded across the way.
-
Timeline
Time may be an illusion, but the timeline tool isn’t.
Use the timeline tool to track the threads of your draft. You can view by storyline, character, or location. It also supports multiple timelines, and you can add events that don’t occur on page. Did something pivotal happen 50 years before your story starts? Great, put it on there.
-
GMC
Goal, Motivation, Conflict.
Every character, from your main character to the most minor is running around with goals, motivations, and conflicts. Track them here – internal and external, what they are, where you established them, all by character. Or don’t – up to you!
-
Drafting
A simple text editor that gets out of your way.
The binder shows your entire manuscript, broken down however you like. Stash your research notes, view notes and scenes (or two scenes) side-by-side, or view unresolved comments from your readers. Codex entries highlight in your draft as you type – just right click for a summary or reminder.
-
Writing Modes
For the weirdos out there.
Set a timer and try one of our most-requested modes: focus paragraph (where you can only see the paragraph you’re working on), focus mode (silence all notifications), or gibberish mode (all your text becomes gibberish). We don’t know why people like this, but they do!
-
Prose Lens
The first Kalliope Draft feature.
Prose Lens is a series of programmatic tools (not AI) designed to aid in drafting. Toggle it on or off, select only certain tools, or change the highlighting colors. It identifies filter words, clichés, and echoes (among other things), but it won’t change a word for you. That’s up to the writer.
-
Parallel Drafts
Try something new without saving a new draft.
Parallel Drafts lets you try out a new POV, a tighter opening, or new inciting incident without replacing your prior work. Create a new scene to run in parallel with the old, compare the differences, and pick your favorite. It’s ok to change your mind. No work is ever lost.
-
Goals
Your goals, your way.
Set goals based on words, scenes, chapters, or time. Or go full-custom and decide today’s the day you want to remove all your filter words. You can also set an overall manuscript target and deadline. Or not. But if you do set and meet a goal, just know…there’s confetti.
-
Time Machine/Archive
Explore every edit and re-edit.
Your manuscript’s revision history laid out by date and scene. Read a past version of a scene, compare it to the current version, and choose whether to restore it as a new change. There’s no time limit on storing edits. That revision history is here to stay.
-
The Chirograph
Tamper-proof drafting history.
At the end of each writing session, the Chirograph bundles your work and cryptographically stamps it, creating an immutable record of how your document came to be. Kalliope Draft isn’t the arbiter of human authorship – it simply makes those decisions easier.
-
Feedback
All the feedback you’ve received, aggregated in one place.
No need to dig back through emails to find John’s feedback from writers’ group eight weeks ago. Whether you imported the comments from Word or they were shared through Circle, you’ll find them in the feedback tab.
-
Plot Grid
A dozen views for a dozen viewpoints.
View your work’s overall structure in more than a dozen ways. Find the view that works best for you, whether it’s by chapter or by day, by storyline or by scene status.
-
Reader Memory
You forgot about that subplot, didn’t you?
That subplot you started but accidentally forgot about for nine chapters? Yeah, it’ll show up here. Reader Memory shows you gaps between mentions of Codex entries as well as Codex entries that are never used.
-
Diagnostics
Dig in to structural issues.
Ready to go deeper? Diagnostics uses the information you’ve provided in the Codex and scene details to point out potential structural issues. For example, it’ll note beats that haven’t been tagged to a scene, or scenes that don’t appear to be doing any work to advance the plot. Maybe you seeded something but never went for the reveal. Or maybe your scene tension flatlines. Learn about it, but only make the changes that resonate.
-
Voice
Ever wish you could hear a character’s voice out loud?
Same. And this doesn’t do that. What it does is show you each chapter’s overall rhythm and the differences between POV characters. It also takes a look at your dialogue, flagging each speaking character’s unique markers. Like all our features, this is done without AI.
-
Progress
Track your daily goals over time.
Wanna see some neat stats about your writing? See your goals, streaks, average words per day, the scene you’ve spent the most time re-writing…all sort of goodies. You can even see the words you reach for most frequently, phrases you repeat, and your favorite punctuation.
-
Social Studio
We took the extra work out of posting your writing stats.
Generate images or timelapses that show your writing journey and share them with the world. Toggle the settings for your preferred platform and customize what you want to share. None of your work is included in readable form, so it stays private even if you post publicly.
-
Circle
Find your inner circle.
Kalliope Circle is an integrated platform to help you find and build community with other writers. An optional add-on, Circle makes the process of writing with others painless. Submissions and feedback are sealed to your Circle, so you can collaborate efficiently and securely.
-
Friends
Write with friends.
Onboard chat allows you to keep up with friends while you write. Send snippets of writing for real-time feedback or just hang out while you buddy write. Friends is silenced when in focus mode.
